RESUBELPARA, May 19: A lone thief attempted to loot the State Bank of India (SBI) ATM located outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Resubelpara on Saturday night. Although the perpetrator damaged the machine’s front cabinet, no money was stolen.
The incident was detected by the SBI ATM security center in Mumbai, which alerted the South West Garo Hills police. They, in turn, informed the North Garo Hills (NGH) police late Saturday evening.
“We received information from the security center via our counterparts in South West Garo Hills. After confirming the breach with the SBI team, we sounded an alert across all police stations and inspected all ATMs in the area,” said NGH Superintendent of Police, Swapnil Pawar.
CCTV footage revealed a single individual dressed in black and wearing a hood.
The suspect attempted to break open the machine but appeared to lack the necessary tools, fleeing the spot after failing to access the cash.
The SP stated that the attempt appears to be the work of a local individual. “An investigation is under way, and we are reviewing CCTV footage from the incident and previous days to identify the suspect. We hope to crack the case soon,” Pawar added.
