Shillong, May 19: Imperious Langsning FC registered their 10th win in a row in the 5th Meghalaya State League by trouncing Nangkiew Irat SC 6-1 at the SSA Stadium here on Tuesday.
In the other Group B encounter, Rymbai Shkenshynriah SC defeated Maram FC 4-2. Hesmiki Rymbai (28’), Monush Lapang (31’), Skilful Tariang (61’) and Niphonghi Sumer (78’) scored a goal each for Shkenshynriah, while Santosh Teron (50’) and Jakchim K Marak (88’) did so for Maram.
Langsning remain the only team to have a 100% win record, going back to the preliminary stage. This day they scored through Samuel Phawa (18’, 21’), Morningstar Khongkiang (58’) and league top scorer Nelson Rymbai (69’, 73’, 87’P). Nangkiew Irat’s only goal was provided by Ronaldkydon L Nonglait (27’). The opening goal came via a counterattack, led up the pitch by Kyrmenskhem Mukhim. He fed the ball to Nelson, who set up Samuel for the tap-in. Samuel then doubled Langsning’s lead minutes later with a low left-footer to take his personal tally of goals to 13 – joint second-highest in MSL 5.
Ronaldkydon kept the game interesting by reducing the margin for Nangkiew Irat with a perfect free-kick but the game swung decisively in Langsning’s favour in the second half, with Morningstar and Nelson adding to their team’s scoreline. Nelson now has 21 goals and has scored at least once in all 10 of Langsning’s matches.
Later, Maram thought they had a dream start with a goal in the very first minute but the assistant referee had the flag up for offside.
Laspoll Ch Marak then got a glove to Hesmiki’s shot but could not stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Then, Monush had a bit of luck with the second goal, as his first attempt hit the upright but the rebound sat up nicely for him to have a another go and he found the target at the second time of asking.
Maram finally came back into the game through a Santosh long-range shot but Shkenshynriah added two more through Skilful and Niponghi. The team from Garo Hills did manage to pull one more back after Jakchim tapped in an assist from Dipen Daimary.
In the standings, Langsning lead with a full 9 points in Group B, with Shkenshynriah second on 6, Nangkiew Irat third with 3 and Maram bringing up the rear with 0.
On Wednesday, in Group A, the second leg of the quarterfinal stage will begin with Mawlai SC to face Rangdajied United FC at 2pm. Nongkseh SSCC will then take on Shillong Lajong at 6pm. These sides had squared off against each other just on Monday, with Mawlai beating Rangdajied 2-1 and Nongkseh blanking Lajong 2-0.
