Actor Raashul Tandon, known for roles in films like Pink, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Kahaani and Heropanti, has spoken about the growing trend of casting social media influencers in films and web series.
In a video shared on Instagram, he said production houses and streaming platforms are increasingly prioritising influencers for their fan following, but this should not be confused with acting ability.
Tandon stressed that there is a clear difference between being popular online and being able to perform and emote on screen.
He pointed out recent examples where journalists, comedians, and influencers were cast in major projects, suggesting that many may not have gone through traditional audition processes, unlike struggling actors.
He urged audiences to be more mindful of their content consumption and encouraged producers to give trained but lesser-known actors fair opportunities.
While acknowledging the importance of star value and marketing appeal, he said many talented actors remain underutilised because visibility is often prioritised over skill. (PTI)
