Experts discuss robotic surgery, cancer care at city programme
SHILLONG, May 24: A one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme was held at the State Convention Centre here on Saturday, focusing on advanced cancer management and modern surgical technologies. The event was organised by Apollo Multispecialty Hospital, Kolkata, in collaboration with the Meghalaya Medical Services Association (MMSA) and the IMA Meghalaya State Chapter. NEIGRIHMS Director Dr. Nalin Mehta attended the session as the Chief Guest, while the guests of honour included Dr. G Kartikayen, Professor of Cardiology at AIIMS New Delhi and Executive Director of THSTI, Faridabad, along with renowned gynaecologist Dr. Namita Mehta. During the technical sessions, eminent head and neck surgical oncologist Dr. Sajeev Sharan delivered a lecture on the overview and management of head and neck cancers. On the other hand, Dr. Ramdip Ray, Head of GI and Liver Transplant Surgery, shared insights into gastrointestinal cancer surgery from a transplant surgeon’s perspective, highlighting the application of state-of-the-art robotic surgical techniques. The CME was presided over by MMSA president Dr. EL Kharmutee and general secretary Dr. R. Pohsnem, alongside IMA Meghalaya State Chapter president Dr. C. Daniala and Dr. Bhaskar Borgohain. The programme saw a large turnout of medical professionals from across Meghalaya.
Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra’s 138th birth anniv celebrated
SHILLONG, May 24: The 138th birth anniversary of Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra along with the 26th year of enshrinement of the sacred idols of Sri Sri Thakur, Sri Sri Boroma and Sri Sri Borda was celebrated at the 2nd SRGT Ground, Polo, on Sunday. Organised by the Utsav Committee of Satsang Vihar Shillong, the day-long celebration began at dawn with Mangalik-Shehnai followed by Usha Kirtan. Congregational prayer, meditation and readings from the Divine Messages of Sri Sri Thakur were also held as part of the spiritual observances. The programme featured ‘Sangeetanjali’, a devotional music presentation in different languages, and an ‘Artistry Mosaic’, showcasing diverse artistic expressions along with discourses on the ideology of Sri Sri Thakur. A bhandara for distribution of prasad was organised from noon onwards, while evening prayer and illumination were scheduled later in the day. The event was also set to conclude with an evening of musical performances. Apart from the spiritual programmes, sports and recreational activities were organised for participants. A free medical camp offering consultation, tests and screening facilities was also conducted as part of the celebration.
