NONGPOH, May 27: After decades of operating without a permanent base, the Nongpoh Elaka Sirdarship is set to have its own office building to streamline local administration.
The foundation stone for the new complex, located near the National Highway-6 lay-by shops, was laid on Wednesday by Cabinet Minister Sosthenes Sohtun. The proposed three-storey building will feature modern architectural standards, with the blueprint unveiled during the ceremony.
The event was attended by Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem, Umsning MLA Dr Celestine Lyngdoh, Acting Sirdar Luistar Lyngdoh, and various local headmen.
To support the construction, Minister Sohtun announced financial assistance of Rs 8 lakh, while MLA Mayralborn Syiem pledged Rs 5 lakh and Dr Celestine Lyngdoh committed Rs 3 lakh.
Speaking at the event, Sohtun described the project as a historic step for the Elaka. He stated that a dedicated office is essential for strengthening governance and welfare activities under its jurisdiction. He further assured that he would seek additional funding to ensure the project’s completion.
MLA Mayralborn Syiem and Dr Celestine Lyngdoh also congratulated the Elaka leadership for the initiative to establish a permanent administrative home for the Sirdarship.
