SHILLONG, May 29: The Assam Regimental Centre (ARC) on Friday held an attestation and passing-out parade for 783 recruits, marking their formal induction into the Indian Army.
The ceremony, held in Shillong, was reviewed by Uttarakhand Governor Lieutenant General (Retd) Gurmit Singh in the presence of Lieutenant General Mohit Wadhwa, General Officer Commanding, 101 Area.
The passing-out batch comprised 320 Agniveers and 463 Territorial Army personnel. These soldiers will now be posted to various units of the Assam Regiment, Arunachal Scouts and the Territorial Army across the country.
More than 3,500 parents and relatives attended the event.
In a gesture of appreciation, the Indian Army honoured the parents with the ‘Gaurav Padak’ for their support and sacrifice in dedicated service to the nation.
The parade was also witnessed by senior military officers and dignitaries from 11 countries, including Bhutan, Indonesia, the Philippines and Seychelles.  Addressing the new inductees, Governor Gurmit Singh highlighted the significant role the Northeast and the Assam Regiment play in national security.
He stressed the importance of discipline, patriotism and duty, urging the soldiers to uphold the highest traditions of the Indian Army.
“The Northeast has always made a remarkable contribution to the Indian Army and to the service of the nation,” the Governor said.
Several newly inducted soldiers expressed their pride in joining the force, noting that the rigorous training at the ARC had instilled in them a strong sense of purpose and resilience to face the challenges of military life.
