Dhaka, May 31: With the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections approaching, board official Israfil Khosru has stressed the need for stability, improved infrastructure and greater support for players, insisting that cricket in the country ultimately belongs to the people.
The BCB is currently being administered by an 11-member ad-hoc committee headed by former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal. Elections are scheduled for June 7, following which a new board comprising 25 elected directors will take charge.Speaking on the BCB’s podcast, Khosru, who serves as a member of the ad-hoc committee and chairman of the Finance Committee, said restoring stability remains one of the board’s primary objectives.“It is difficult to say whether stability has fully returned, but it is something Bangladesh cricket needs,” Khosru said. “The role of the cricket board is straightforward — to provide players with the facilities, infrastructure and support necessary for their development. If we can remain committed to those principles, the board will truly serve the people.”He emphasized that cricket enjoys immense popularity across Bangladesh and should not be controlled by any particular group.“Bangladesh cricket belongs to the people. Everyone in the country loves the game. It is deeply embedded in our culture and identity,” he added.Khosru acknowledged that despite Bangladesh’s progress on the international stage over the years, the country’s cricket infrastructure has not developed at the same pace. He called for long-term planning, improved facilities and the establishment of more academies to strengthen the sport’s foundation.
“We have come a long way as a cricketing nation, but there is still much work to be done. We need better training facilities, more academies and a clear roadmap for the future. Most importantly, we need more cricket being played at every level,” he said. (Agencies)
