Musician IP Singh has defended the reimagined version of the classic song Chunnari Chunnari for the upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, saying that revisiting iconic tracks is a long-established tradition in global music.
Responding to criticism that the original song from Biwi No.1 did not need a remake, Singh said the new version is intended as a tribute rather than a replacement.
He noted that artists around the world often pay homage to influential songs by reinterpreting them in their own style.
Singh said he and his team were excited when approached by music label Tips to create a fresh version of the track and did not dwell on whether such an iconic song should be remade.
He added that reimagined songs can help introduce classic music to younger audiences who may not otherwise discover older hits.
Rejecting the view that remakes are driven solely by commercial considerations, Singh said reinterpretations have long been part of music culture.
He described the new Chunnari Chunnari as a respectful homage to one of Hindi cinema’s most beloved songs and another form of artistic expression alongside original and folk music. (PTI)
