GUWAHATI, June 4: Gauhati High Court on Thursday declined to hear the bail plea of Siddharth Sharma, a key accused in the Zubeen Garg death case.

The bench of Justice Parthivjyoti Saikia did not hear the bail application and refused to accept the case.

The bench also declined to hear a separate petition concerning Mahabir Aqua, a business entity reportedly connected to Sharma, and ordered that the matter be transferred to a different bench for consideration.

This is not the first time that the High Court bench has declined to hear such a matter.

On May 29, the bench had rejected the bail application of Shyamkanu Mahanta, one of the prime accused in the case, for a second time.

Earlier, a special fast-track court, constituted specifically for the case, had rejected his bail application in connection with the case.

Sharma had filed the bail application on May 26 amid ongoing legal proceedings in the case. He was arrested on October 1 along with co-accused Mahanta.

Earlier, the fast-track court, presided over by Judge Sharmila Bhuyan, framed charges against Sharma and six other accused under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The case, titled State vs Siddhartha Sharma and Six Others, includes charges related to criminal conspiracy, murder, culpable homicide not amounting to murder, extortion, cheating, criminal breach of trust and causing disappearance of evidence.
