SHILLONG, June 5: A scheduled filing of nomination papers by Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA)-II Rajya Sabha nominee James P.K. Sangma was unexpectedly postponed on Friday, with the leader now set to submit his papers on Monday.
Several MLAs, including legislators from Garo Hills and ministers belonging to the NPP and its coalition partner BJP, had already arrived at the venue when news of the postponement emerged.
The sudden development left many leaders learning of the decision only after reaching the complex, with some seen making phone calls to confirm the change in schedule.
When contacted, Assembly Secretary and Returning Officer Malthus S. Sangma said the nomination filing had been deferred because certain documents were not yet ready. He informed that Sangma would now file his nomination papers at 11 am on Monday.
June 8 is the last date for filing nominations for the Rajya Sabha election, which is scheduled to be held on June 18.
