USA, Turkiye, Paraguay and Australia set for Group D battle

NewYork, June 5: Co-hosts the United States will face familiar opposition in Group D after meeting Australia, Paraguay and Türkiye in friendlies last year. Türkiye returns to the World Cup for the first time since 2002, Paraguay ends a 16-year absence and Australia arrives after reaching the last 16 in Qatar.
United States
The United States enters its home World Cup with concerns in defence but plenty of attacking talent. Coach Mauricio Pochettino has experimented with different systems while building a possession-based side centred around midfield control and attacking full-backs.
Christian Pulisic remains the team’s talisman, while striker Folarin Balogun offers a reliable goal threat. Backed by home support, the Americans will hope their attacking strength outweighs defensive uncertainties.

Türkiye
Türkiye returns to the World Cup after a 24-year absence under coach Vincenzo Montella. Led by captain Hakan Calhanoglu and rising stars Arda Guler and Kenan Yildiz, the squad blends youth and experience.
Strong in midfield and defence, Türkiye will target a place in the knockout rounds.

Paraguay
Paraguay is back at the World Cup for the first time since 2010 after a revival under Gustavo Alfaro. Built on defensive discipline and teamwork, the South Americans have rediscovered their identity while adding creativity through a younger generation.
Veterans Miguel Almiron and Antonio Sanabria provide experience, while exciting youngsters offer fresh energy.

Australia
Australia arrives at a sixth consecutive World Cup under Tony Popovic, whose organised and disciplined approach has made the Socceroos difficult to break down. The team reached the last 16 in Qatar and hopes to go even further this time.
A promising crop of young attackers has added flair to Australia’s traditionally resilient style.
