CRPF honours martyr in North Garo Hills

TURA, June 8: The 120 Battalion Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Sunday organised a special tribute programme at Thorikapara, Bajengdoba, North Garo Hills, to honour the supreme sacrifice of constable/general duty Utpal Rabha, who attained martyrdom on this day in 2018, during an anti-Naxal operation in Jharkhand.
The programme commenced with wreath laying ceremony followed by a public address attended by various senior state police officials, CRPF officers, village head and residents of the village.
Assistant Commandant, 120 Battalion CRPF, LL Kom, laid a wreath on behalf of the Director General of CRPF to pay tribute to Rabha.
Addressing the gathering, Superintendent of Police, North Garo Hills, Ishan Gupta, said that it was because of the ultimate sacrifice of Rabha and many others like him, that the Government of India has today been able to declare Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and other affected areas as Naxal-free. “Their courage ensured that the nation’s resolve prevailed,” he added.
Dignitaries present during the tribute ceremony included John Sangma, MPS, Dy. Superintendent of Police, Headquarters North Garo Hills; AK Srivastava, Inspector, Bajengdoba; and Nameshwar Rabha, Village Head, Thorikapara, along with family members of the martyr and the general public of Thorikapara.
The programme concluded with a two minutes of silence in memory of Shaheed Utpal Rabha.
