Manipur CM condemns killing of Naga villagers; NIA begins probe

GUWAHATI, June 11: The Government of Manipur has strongly condemned the alleged killing of six Naga villagers who were abducted by suspected armed militants at Leilon Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district on May 13.

In a statement, Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families and strongly condemned the brutal act.

Singh said that the government would not tolerate such brutal violence and will not remain a mute spectator to these atrocities.

“Culprits responsible for the murder will be arrested and punished as per the law of the land”, he asserted.

The chief minister extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased.

Singh also condemned the killing of a farmer from Lansan Kuki village under Tamei Police Station, Tamenglong district by suspected armed miscreants on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the mortal remains of the bodies of six abducted Naga civilians were brought to the mortuary of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal in the early hours of Thursday.

The Manipur government has handed over the investigation into the abduction of six Naga villagers to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The agency has subsequently launched a forensic investigation into the case.

A team of NIA officials, along with forensic experts and other authorities, commenced examination of the bodies and collection of evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

The agency is carrying out forensic analyses to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the six civilians.
