Rhino poaching bid foiled in Kaziranga; 2 arrested

GUWAHATI, June 11: Forest officials and police conducted a joint anti-rhino poaching operation in the Agoratoli Range of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve and arrested two poachers with weapons.

“Acting upon a secret information, an operation was carried out in the Agoratoli Range area by forest officials, including the DFO, Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, and Range officer and Golaghat police led by ASP (Crime) Golaghat, assisted by CDSP Bokakhat and staff,” an official informed.

“The operation led to the recovery of two handmade rifles along with a bike. Two poachers were arrested while they were planning to enter Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve for poaching,” the official informed.

The arrested poachers have been identified as Jintu Orang (40), a resident of Geleki village number two under Bokakhat police station in Golaghat district and Sarbang Ranghang (31), of Dolamara Langmang Ranghang village under Dolamara police station in Karbi Anglong district.
