GUWAHATI, June 11: The United Christian Forum of North East India (UCFNEI) has expressed profound sorrow over the recovery of the mortal remains of six individuals in Manipur.

According to the Manipur Police, the deceased were among those taken hostage from Leilon Vaiphei about a month back.

“This heartbreaking development comes after weeks of anguished waiting and fervent prayers by families, churches, and the wider community for the safe return of the missing. The hope that had sustained them has now given way to deep grief. UCFNEI mourns alongside the bereaved families, congregations, and communities that have endured this prolonged ordeal. The loss is felt even more acutely as two of the deceased were pastors, leaving their congregations and flocks heartbroken,” spokesperson for UCFNEI, Allen Brooks said in a statement on Thursday.

“In this time of sorrow, UCFNEI is reminded of the words of the Psalmist: The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit – (Psalm 34:18). Every human life is precious and bears the imprint of God-given dignity. The violent taking of these lives inflicts a wound not only upon the immediate families but also upon the entire social fabric of Manipur,” Brooks stated.

“UCFNEI strongly urges the authorities to conduct a full, impartial, and swift investigation into the circumstances surrounding these deaths so that truth may be revealed and justice served according to the law,” he stated.

The Forum appealed to all communities, leaders, organisations and citizens to respond with restraint and prayer.

“May grief not be allowed to fuel retaliation, hatred, or further violence. Instead, let us turn to the Prince of Peace, as Scripture reminds us: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27),” Brooks stated.

“UCFNEI prays for God’s tender comfort to envelop the grieving families, for divine wisdom to guide those in positions of authority, and for healing, justice, and lasting peace to be restored in Manipur,” he stated.
