SHILLONG, June 10: The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) on Wednesday criticised Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for his silence on the alleged NEET paper leak and urged the state government to support affected students.
Addressing reporters at Congress Bhavan, MPYC president Timjim K Momin expressed disappointment that the Chief Minister had not spoken out on an issue impacting thousands of medical aspirants in the state. He noted that roughly 2,000 to 3,000 students from Meghalaya appear for the exam annually and the government should have voiced concerns over the current uncertainty.
The MPYC demanded accountability in the conduct of national examinations and called for the removal of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Indian Youth Congress secretary in-charge of Meghalaya, Samrat Keshari Jena, accused the Centre of failing to address the crisis adequately. Citing reports of student suicides linked to exam-related distress, Jena said the government had failed to show empathy toward affected families.
Jena warned that recurring irregularities would erode public confidence in the education system. He stated that the Youth Congress would intensify its campaign for transparency, adding that political parties can no longer ignore the aspirations and concerns of the younger generation.
