Sports kits in Ri-Bhoi programme; youths urged to stay drug-free
NONGPOH, June 11: Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), Ri Bhoi, on Thursday organised a sports materials distribution and youth club development programme at the DRDA Hall, Nongpoh. The event, aimed at strengthening grassroots sports culture and youth engagement, was attended by nominated MDC Mathew Makdoh as the chief guest, alongside BJP ST Morcha state president Hemanta Timung and MY Bharat deputy director Michael Thangminlien Mate. Addressing the gathering, Makdoh encouraged young people to participate in community service and sports to foster discipline and unity. He noted that youth clubs are essential for driving positive social change in the district. Hemanta Timung, who also serves as the convenor for Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, urged the youths to avoid substance abuse and embrace constructive activities for a healthier future. A key part of the programme was the distribution of sports kits to various youth clubs from across the district. Additionally, youth leader Hababiang Kharsohmat briefed participants on different state government welfare schemes and opportunities available to them. The event concluded with the administration of the Nasha Mukt Bharat pledge, where participants reaffirmed their commitment to building a drug-free society.

LEADS Higher Secondary School wins ‘Green-Preneur’ pitch contest
SHILLONG, June 11: LEADS Higher Secondary School emerged as the winner of Meghalaya’s first ‘Green-Preneur’ interschool sustainable business pitch competition, held here on Wednesday. Organised by BDW International School in collaboration with PRIME Meghalaya, the event adopted a “Shark Tank” format. Students presented eco-friendly business models focused on waste management, recycling, and environmental responsibility. The competition saw participation from several schools across Shillong, aiming to foster entrepreneurial thinking and practical solutions for sustainability among the youth. While LEADS Higher Secondary School took the top spot, St. Edmund’s School secured the runner-up position. The initiative by BDW International School and PRIME Meghalaya seeks to encourage student-led innovation and environmental awareness throughout the state.
