Shillong, June 11: Team Meghalaya delivered an impressive performance at the 1st Sikkim Open International Taekwondo Championship 2026, winning five medals at the competition held at Palzor Stadium in Gangtok from June 6 to 8.
Representing Meghalaya through the Shillong Taekwondo Academy under the All Meghalaya Taekwondo Association (AMTA), the athletes showcased their talent against strong domestic and international opposition to bring home one gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
Ridhawan Gurung emerged as the standout performer, claiming the gold medal. Clifford Luiram and Hameshanki Nongkynrih secured silver medals, while Jatin Gowda and Nebariousda Natep won bronze medals in their respective categories.Apart from the athletes’ success, Meghalaya also received recognition on the technical front, with Pinky Narzary being invited to serve as Technical In-Charge for the championship.
