MOSCOW, June 17: Russian President Vladimir Putin is hosting leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Kazan for a two-day summit focused on expanding economic, trade and strategic cooperation. The meeting marks the 35th anniversary of Russia-ASEAN relations and aims to strengthen what Moscow describes as a strategic partnership with the regional bloc.
According to Kremlin officials, discussions will cover trade, investment, industrial cooperation and key regional and global issues. Putin said the summit would create new opportunities for mutually beneficial business ties and direct engagement between companies.
The summit is being co-chaired by Ferdinand Marcos Jr., whose country currently holds ASEAN’s rotating presidency. Several ASEAN nations have also increased interest in Russian energy supplies amid global market disruptions. (AP)
