FM Sitharaman to arrive in state today on two-day visit

SHILLONG, June 18: Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman will arrive here on Friday on a two-day visit.
On Friday, she will inaugurate the Northeast’s largest organic spice processing plant at Bhoirymbong in Ri-Bhoi district. The facility, set up by the Eastern Ri-Bhoi Organic Farmer Producer Company, will process 10,346 MT of spices annually and benefit over 5,500 organic farmers.
She will then attend the inaugural session of the “Leveraging Externally Aided Projects in the North-Eastern States” conference at Courtyard by Marriott, Shillong.
In the evening, at U Soso Tham Auditorium, she will preside over a ceremony celebrating Meghalaya’s Externally Aided Projects and lay foundation stones for four major projects worth more than Rs 1,200 crore, including the Meghalaya Logistics and Connectivity Improvement Project, Meghalaya Ecotourism Infrastructure Development Project, Integrated Ecotourism and Sustainable Agri-based Livelihood Development Project, and Phase II of Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya.
On Saturday, Sitharaman will hold an interactive session with students at Kiang Nangbah Government College in Jowai. She will inaugurate the Jowai–Nartiang–Kdiap–Khanduli Road at Wahiajer Football Stadium. She will also visit the Shree Maa Jayantee Temple and Nartiang Monolith Heritage Site, interact with farmers and artisans of GI-tagged products, and meet black clay pottery artisans in Larnai village before winding up her visit.
