RGU secures 29th position in Physical Sciences, 88th in overall Nature Index 2026 India Ranking

GUWAHATI, June 22: The Department of Physics at The Assam Royal Global
University (RGU) has secured the 29 th position in the All India Ranking by the prestigious
Nature Index-2026, surpassing many premier institutions of the nation in this highly
competitive global research platform.

At the same time, the Nature Index database, curated by Springer Nature, has ranked RGU at
an impressive 88th position in terms of overall research outputs. Thus, RGU becomes the only
private university among the seven-sister states of the North East being ranked among the top
100 institutions in India consecutively for the second time by Nature Index, according to a Press release.

Expressing his happiness for the recently declared Rankings by Nature Index, Prof AK
Buragohain, Vice Chancellor of RGU said, “The recognition comes as a reward for the
institution’s commitment to cutting-edge research, innovation, and academic excellence. This
is just the beginning; we have miles to go improving our research output.”

It could be mentioned here that while the Physics Department has secured an All India Rank
(AIR) of 29 in Physical Sciences, RGU has achieved an overall All India Rank of 88 in
Academic outputs with a cumulative credit point of 2.95. Nine research papers have been
published in the European Physical Journal C, a highly reputed journal in the field of physics,
during the assessment period from 1 st March 2025 to 28 th February 2026.

The Index tracks contributions to research articles published in high-quality natural-science
and health-science journals, chosen based on reputation by an independent group of
researchers.The Nature Index provides absolute Count and fractional Share counts of article
publication at the institutional and national level and, as such, is an indicator of global high-
quality research output and collaboration. Data in the Nature Index are updated regularly.
