SHILLONG, June 22: A drug deal was busted at the Lumsurvey area here on Monday, and two drug traffickers were apprehended in an ambush operation led by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF).
The arrested persons, identified as Sabina Begum (21) and Viru Singh (40), are suspected to be part of a larger organised crime syndicate involved in drug peddling in Shillong. The police are tracking forward and backward linkages of the network.
During the operation, the ANTF team seized one plastic soap box containing 16.1 grams of suspected heroin, 47 colourful vials containing suspected heroin, and a mobile phone.
A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at Sadar Police Station.
The ANTF stated that three cases relating to contraband trafficking from the Lumsurvey area have been registered under the NDPS Act so far in 2026. In these cases, seven persons have been arrested, the majority of whom are residents of Assam. A significant quantity of heroin, along with a large number of empty vials and syringes, has also been recovered and seized.
