Songsak residents flag movement of overloaded coal trucks
TURA, June 23: Residents of Songsak have raised concerns over the movement of overloaded coal trucks along the Songsak–Mendipathar road, alleging that vehicles are carrying loads far beyond the permissible nine-tonne limit. Strict weight restrictions are in place for the route due to the poor condition of the road and the presence of weak bridges. However, on June 19, locals spotted three coal trucks from the Nongalbibra–Jadigittim area parked along the road. The drivers reportedly told residents they were waiting for a fourth truck that had broken down nearby. Upon inspection, locals found that all four vehicles were allegedly transporting coal in excess of the prescribed limit. Residents warned that the continued movement of overloaded trucks threatens to further damage the road and compromise the structural integrity of bridges. They noted that such damage would cause significant hardship for commuters and students who rely on the route daily.
