Modi gets invite for Khamenei’s funeral ceremony
New Delhi, June 24: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is learnt to have invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the burial ceremonies for the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, diplomatic sources said on Wednesday. The funeral ceremonies will be held from July 5 to 9. There is no confirmation from New Delhi on the invitation to PM Modi. Khamenei, who ruled Iran for three decades, was killed on February 28, the first day of massive US and Israeli air strikes on Tehran. The Indian prime minister has been invited by President Pezeshkian to the burial ceremonies, the diplomatic sources said. The funeral is slated to be held in Tehran and Qom on July 5, 6, and 7. (PTI)
Delhi cabbie shot in leg after raping, killing 10-year-old girl
NEW DELHI, June 24: A 34-year-old cab driver was shot in the leg by Delhi Police after he allegedly abducted, raped and murdered a 10-year-old girl in the Dwarka area. The suspect, identified as Pramod, was apprehended following a massive search operation launched after the minor went missing on Sunday evening while going to a nearby shop. CCTV footage from the locality showed the suspect luring the girl into his vehicle. Acting on technical intelligence, police tracked the vehicle and recovered the victim’s body from a secluded forest area near Najafgarh. Preliminary medical examinations confirmed that the child was sexually assaulted before being strangled to death. The police encounter occurred during the recovery of evidence at the crime scene. According to officials, Pramod attempted to snatch a service weapon from a policeman in a bid to escape. In the ensuing confrontation, police fired a retaliatory shot, hitting him in the leg.
