SHILLONG, June 24: In a disturbing repeat incident, the vehicle of Rev. Macdonald Pyngrope, Pastor of Mawkhar Presbyterian Church, was allegedly vandalised by unidentified miscreants for the second time in less than two months.
The latest attack took place in the early hours of Wednesday while the vehicle was parked inside the pastor’s residence at Mission Compound. Miscreants smashed the rear window and ransacked the interior, apparently searching for certain documents or items. The extent of the loss is yet to be ascertained.
This comes barely a month after the first incident on May 24, when the pastor’s vehicle was damaged near Wahumkhrah fencing at Lawmali Pyllun following a cottage gathering. At that time, the right rear door was smashed.
The incidents have sparked concern as they occurred shortly after Rev. Pyngrope raised questions over the alleged misappropriation of church funds.
Police are treating the cases seriously.
East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said investigations are under way to ascertain the motive and whether the two attacks are connected, even though a fresh complaint is yet to be filed.
