Landslides on Shillong-Dawki road to be probed

SHILLONG, June 26: The NHIDCL is carrying out a scientific evaluation of damages on the Shillong-Dawki road following a recent landslide that washed away a stretch of the highway near Laitlyngkot due to heavy rainfall.
The agency is also working on long-term solutions to prevent frequent landslides along the under-construction project.
Commissioner & Secretary of Revenue & Disaster Management, Sanjay Goyal said vehicles are now plying through alternate routes after the latest incident.
The department has also reviewed preparedness measures in view of forecasts of heavy rainfall in certain pockets over the next few days.
Goyal added that the entire machinery has been activated and advance funds have been placed with the respective deputy commissioners to meet any immediate requirements.
