ENG VS NZ | 3RD TEST
Nottingham, June 28: New Zealand national cricket team moved to the brink of a historic Test series victory after reducing England cricket team to 103 for 4 at stumps on the fourth day of the third and deciding Test at Trent Bridge on Sunday.
Chasing a daunting target of 373, England still require another 270 runs on the final day with only six wickets in hand, while New Zealand are just six wickets away from securing their first Test series triumph on English soil since 1999.
Earlier, New Zealand declared their second innings at 288 for 9, thanks to a resilient unbeaten century from Daryl Mitchell, who struck 100 off 241 deliveries, and a fluent 94 by Rachin Ravindra. The pair laid the foundation for a formidable fourth-innings target before the visitors called their batsmen in.
England captain Ben Stokes, who earlier announced he would retire from international cricket after the conclusion of the match, made an immediate impact by dismissing Zak Foulkes with his first delivery. Fast bowler Jofra Archer was the standout performer with the ball, returning figures of 4 for 53.
However, England’s pursuit got off to a shaky start as New Zealand’s bowlers struck regularly. Stokes, promoted to open the innings, played a brisk knock of 30 before falling to Foulkes. Jacob Bethell departed without scoring, while Harry Brook managed 21 before holing out. (AP)
