Shillong, June 29: Former India opener Sadagoppan Ramesh has slammed Team India for underestimating Ireland after its shock 34-run defeat in the opening T20I, accusing the visitors of paying the price for their overconfidence.
India, led by Shreyas Iyer, were bowled out for 148 while chasing 183, handing Ireland their first-ever international victory over India in any format.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ramesh said India treated the series like a “picnic tour.”
“Ireland deserves praise for their planning. India thought this would be an easy series and looked ahead to England. Ireland showed them that international cricket is no picnic,” he said.
Ramesh added that although the Ireland series was only a precursor to the England tour, there could be no excuses for such a humiliating defeat. (Agencies)
