SHILLONG, July 2: Two faculty members from the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) have been ranked among the world’s top 5% scientists in the 2025 SciRank Global Registry.
Dr Yugal Kishore Mohanta of the Department of Applied Biology and Dr Mohit L Deb of the Department of Chemistry were recognised for their research impact and academic contributions. According to the university, the independent global ranking places the duo among an elite group of researchers whose work has significantly influenced the international scientific community.
SciRank is a global platform that assesses researchers using bibliometric indicators, including productivity, citation impact,  and academic influence across various disciplines. Inclusion in the top five per cent is considered a major milestone in scientific achievement.
Congratulating the scientists, USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque said the recognition reflects the university’s commitment to building a robust research ecosystem.
“This achievement is a matter of pride for USTM and the entire North Eastern region. It demonstrates that quality research from this region can compete with the best in the world,” Hoque said.
Vice Chancellor Prof GD Sharma added that the ranking is a testament to the scientists’ dedication and reinforces USTM’s focus on high-quality research and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Established in 2011, USTM is the first state private university dedicated to science and technology in Northeast India. The university, which holds a NAAC ‘A’ grade, has increasingly focused on high-impact publications, patents, and international academic collaborations.
