SHILLONG, July 2: The Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) has begun clearing tangled and non-functional overhead wires across the city as part of an urban beautification drive.
Workers were recently seen untangling wires in the Police Bazar area. The initiative follows a government meeting with the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd (MeECL), cable operators, and internet service providers to coordinate the removal of unused infrastructure and hanging cables. With the National Games scheduled for next year, the state government is focusing on improving the city’s appearance through a phased approach to address cable clutter.
