Dhaka, July 2: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) remains optimistic that India’s scheduled white-ball tour of the country will go ahead later this year, even though the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to make an official announcement as it awaits clearance from the Indian government.
The bilateral series, originally scheduled for August 2025, was postponed by a year after the BCCI cited the prevailing political situation and strained relations between the two neighbouring countries.
If all necessary approvals are received, India are expected to travel to Bangladesh in September for the limited-overs series. Despite the uncertainty over the final confirmation, BCB director and media committee chairman Asif Rabbani expressed confidence that the tour would proceed as planned.
“We are confident about hosting India as per schedule. We have floated the Expression of Interest (EOI) for media rights for the next few home series, including India’s tour, and are hoping for a good response from prospective bidders.
Everyone is well aware of the benefits of playing a white-ball series against a top side like India and the signs are positive,” Rabbani told Cricbuzz.
The BCB’s confidence is also reflected in its commercial preparations, having already invited bids for media rights covering the upcoming home fixtures, including the high-profile India series.
The development comes after former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal was elected president of the BCB following his earlier stint heading an ad hoc committee.
Even before assuming office, Tamim had stressed the importance of maintaining strong relationships with cricket boards around the world, and since taking charge he has repeatedly voiced optimism about hosting India according to schedule. While the BCCI continues to await the Indian government’s approval before issuing a formal confirmation, the BCB believes the prospects of staging the much-anticipated series remain encouraging.
