SHILLONG, July 4: Former Indian cricket captain and 1983 World Cup winner Kris Srikkanth inspired hundreds of students during a virtual interaction at a Youth Convention organised by the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre (RKMVCC) in Shillong on Saturday to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s historic visit to the city.
Interacting with students from nearly 40 schools, Srikkanth shared lessons from his cricketing journey and encouraged young people to pursue their goals with discipline, dedication and self-belief. He also answered questions from students on leadership, perseverance and success.
The day-long convention was organised to inspire young minds through a series of activities focused on leadership, wellness and character-building. The programme began with the National Anthem, Vedic chanting and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp.
Students participated in yoga and meditation sessions conducted by experts, while motivational talks highlighted the importance of purposeful living, strong values and responsible leadership. The event also featured student presentations, cultural performances, traditional songs and a skit depicting the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda.
Organisers said the convention aimed to empower the youth and encourage them to become responsible citizens capable of contributing positively to society. The programme concluded with an interactive panel discussion involving students and resource persons.
