Fraud

A resident of a locality in West Jaintia Hills lodged a complaint that on March 23, 2026, he submitted an online query for establishment of KFC franchise outlet at Jowai, WJH, by his father, through a website viz. ‘online.kfc.co.in’. On March 26, 2026, he received a phone call from one Daya Shankar Mishra, who claimed to be a representative of ‘Yum Restaurant India Pvt., Ltd., the company managing KFC outlets in India, which was later followed by a series of e-mails from [email protected] and several phone calls from Daya Shankar Mishra, regarding the procedure for obtaining KYC franchise, etc. Later, his father transferred a total amount of Rs. 65, 21,490 to different account numbers on several occasions. However, on June 25, after he received a clarification from the grievance officer of KFC, the complainant realised that he has been cheated.
Registrar, Birth and Death, Rongjeng CHC, lodged a complaint that 17 birth certificates submitted in the aforementioned office for verification were found to be fake and do not correspond with the official records maintained in the office, etc.
A resident of a village in West Garo Hills lodged a complaint that on January 30, 2026, one Rashidul Islam of Afreen Hotel, Dhubri, Assam, allegedly used his Customer Service Point (CSP) account number for fraudulent transactions amounting to Rs. 7.7 lakh, without his knowledge.

Theft

Omechel Khardewsaw lodged a complaint on July 1 that unknown miscreant(s) stole steel bar scraps, CGI pipe(s), window bar, cistern cast iron, copper & aluminum wires, angle grinder, etc., total valued around Rs. 35,000 from a construction site of Soil & Water Conservation Department at Wahdienglieng, EKH.
Nanglamlin Rynjah lodged a complaint on July 1 that unknown miscreant(s) stole five batteries installed at SBI ATM Kiosk, Madanrting, Block-F, Shillong.
Police received information that on July 1 evening, unknown miscreant(s) broke the window glass of one vehicle at Dhankheti, Shillong, and stole hard drive.
Nepal Biswasharma lodged a complaint that on June 29, unknown miscreant(s) stole his scooter (ML-05U-4030) from Umsohsun, Shillong.
Police received information that on July 1 evening, unknown miscreant(s) broke the window glass of one vehicle parked near Seven-Day Adventist Church, Shillong, and stole one laptop.
On July 2 around 4:20 am, Wellibroad Majai along with his friend reported at Bholaganj police checkpost that unknown miscreant(s) stole their motorcycles (ML-05AB-8763 and ML-05E-7898) from his residence at Umdud village, Bholaganj, EKH.
Iakitlang Kharbuli and Teiboklang Pyngrope, jointly lodged a complaint that unknown miscreant(s) stole two motorcycles from their respective residences at Diengpasoh and Mawpdang Dongmawlieh, EKH.
Dinesh Saigal lodged a complaint that on June 30 around 9:25 am, unknown miscreant(s) stole three brand new batteries from the area of Saigal Enterprise at Keating Road, Shillong.
Willi B Marak lodged a complaint that in the wee hours of June 30, unknown miscreant(s) stole two heads of cattle from his residential compound at Rongalgre village, EGH.
Dy. Range Officer, Dainadubi, NGH, lodged a complaint that on June 29 around 3:30 am, unknown miscreant(s) stole two doors of one seized vehicle (ML-13-3460) from the Range complex.
Ruby Kharbyngar lodged a complaint that on June 27, unknown miscreant(s) stole his motorcycle (ML-05P-4005) from Mawlong Hat, Shillong.
Kompestar Kharlyngdoh lodged a complaint that on June 29 around 3:30 am, unknown miscreant(s) stole his motorcycle (ML-05T-9518) from Tynring, EKH.
Gledison Marak lodged a complaint that on June 27, unknown miscreant(s) stole his motorcycle (ML-08C-0031) from Nazing Bazar, Tura.

Threat

A woman lodged a complaint that on June 30 evening, one individual, viz. R Suting verbally abused her and also threatened her with dire consequences in a locality in Shillong.

Break-in

Dr. Kamaljeet Singh Sehdave, GS, Gurudwara near All India Radio, Shillong, lodged a complaint that on June 26, unknown miscreant(s) broke into the premises and stole cash Rs. 1 lakh from the donation box.
Police received information that on (Jul 2), unknown miscreant(s) broke into the premises of Presbyterian Church Mawtawar, Umjalynshir, EKH, and stole almirah, Bible, flower pots, song books, etc.
Pastor TJ Moksha lodged a complaint that on Jun 30 around midnight, unknown miscreant(s) broke into the premises of Christ Tabernacle Church at Jaiaw Lumbatemon, Shillong, and stole musical instruments valued around Rs. 1 lakh.
Ankur Jhunjhunwala lodged a complaint that on June 30, unknown miscreant(s) trespassed into his residential building with an intention to commit theft.
Fairborn G Ranee lodged a complaint that on Jun 29, 2026 at about 3 am, unknown miscreant(s) broke into his residence at Umpling, Dongshaneng Block-VI, Shillong, and stole copper wires valued around Rs. 12,000.
Anderson Talang lodged a complaint that on June 28, unknown miscreant(s) broke into the house of his aunt at Nongrah, Nonglum, Shillong, and stole wires, one angle grinder machine, two basin mixtures, one sink mixture, one cutter machine, one drilling machine, etc., total valued around Rs. 1.7 lakh.
Cicilia Sikiame G Momin lodged a complaint that between June 20 and 25, unknown miscreant(s) broke into her residence at Laban, Howell Road, Shillong, and vandalised the interior of the house.

Body recovered

On June 27 around 4 pm, police received information that one Shri Bonen T Sangma (63yrs) was found lying dead with multiple injury marks inside his kitchen at Chandigre village, WGH. Later, Police and CSU recovered one crowbar and one blood stained axe from the PO. Necessary formalities were observed and the dead body was handed over to relatives.

Bangladeshi nationals intercepted

On June 27 around 9:30 pm, police and BSF personnel apprehended 26 suspected Bangladeshi nationals and one 15-year-old girl, who is an Indian national, at Karonggre Tri-Junction, WGH, while they were travelling in two Assam-bound Tata Winger vehicles. During inquiry, the intruders revealed that they entered into Indian territory illegally with an intention to proceed to Kolkata and Chennai in search of jobs in private establishments.
