No bridesmaids, no groomsmen: Couple breaks wedding tradition
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce married Friday night at Madison Square Garden, where actor Adam Sandler was the surprising officiant at a star-packed ceremony.
The marquee outside the Midtown Manhattan arena read ‘JUST&T MARRIED’ once the deed was done. The couple chose to break away from wedding tradition by opting against bridesmaids and groomsmen during their wedding ceremony at New York’s Madison Square Garden, instead assigning key roles to their siblings on their special day.
The bride and groom’s outfits were designed by Christian Dior Haute Couture and its designer Jonathan Anderson with shoes custom-made by Christian Louboutin. She wore Cartier jewellery.
The wedding between the superstar singer and football player took place as fans and spectators gathered outside MSG in the blistering heat, eager to be part of the occasion, even though the event was almost entirely hidden.
Celebrities, athletes and friends were posting on social media about getting ready or about to leave for a black-tie event, including Brandon Borders, producer of the New Heights podcast starring Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce; Beau Allen, retired defensive lineman for the Philadelphia Eagles; and Jessica Chastain.
There was a notable lack of social media posts from guests once they had entered the arena, after reports that phones would not be allowed. Weddings have been a constant subject in Swift’s songs since she was a teenager, and her actually walking the aisle for the first time at age 36 adds to the drama.
Trump trolls Swift-Kelce wedding
US President Donald Trump may not have been invited to the grand celebration, but the president did manage to insert himself into the festivities in through a meme. The White House responded to the couple’s marriage on Twitter, posting a riff on the signs that appeared outside Madison Square Garden on Friday night. “IT’S HAPPENED!!!” the page wrote along with the meme, which showcased signs reading “Trump Is Your President” instead of “JUST&T MARRIED.”
Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds skip celebration
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s star-studded wedding at New York’s Madison Square Garden drew several high-profile guests, but two familiar names were notably missing from the celebrations: Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds.
The Hollywood couple did not attend either the wedding ceremony on Friday, July 3, or the rehearsal dinner held a day earlier. Instead, they spent the weekend in Lake Placid, New York, where their six-year-old daughter, Betty, was participating in a horse show. (Agencies)
