SHILLONG, July 7: The FKJGP South East Khasi Border Circle has flagged high rates of absenteeism and crumbling infrastructure in government offices in Mawsynram following a surprise inspection on Tuesday.
The inspection was prompted by local complaints regarding irregular attendance of staff. FKJGP general secretary Entrust Snaitang reported that attendance in several offices fell significantly short of expectations during official working hours.
According to Snaitang, the office of the Block Agriculture Development Officer (BADO) was found empty, while the PWD (Roads) Lawbah Sub-Division was closed. Attendance at the PWD (Roads) Mawsynram Sub-Division was also reportedly low.
“The public suffers when government offices are unattended. Many people spend time and money travelling to these offices only to find them closed or understaffed,” Snaitang said.
He urged government employees to perform their duties responsibly and warned that the organisation would report the matter to higher authorities for stricter action if the situation does not improve.Beyond staff attendance, the FKJGP also highlighted the dilapidated state of several office buildings in the area, calling for urgent repairs and maintenance to ensure a proper working environment.
