Mumbai, July 9: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is set to be inducted into the International Cricket Council (ICC) Hall of Fame on July 11, adding another prestigious honour to his illustrious cricketing career.
Ganguly will join an elite group of Indian greats already enshrined in the Hall of Fame, including Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, MS Dhoni, Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Anil Kumble, Virender Sehwag, Vinoo Mankad, Bishan Singh Bedi and former India women’s captain Diana Edulji.
The announcement comes just days after Ganguly celebrated his 54th birthday, when the makers of his upcoming biopic Dada unveiled its first-look poster featuring actor Rajkummar Rao recreating Ganguly’s iconic jersey-waving celebration following India’s memorable NatWest Series triumph at Lord’s in 2002.
One of India’s most influential captains, Ganguly scored 7,212 runs in 113 Tests and 11,363 runs in 311 One-Day Internationals, including a combined 38 international centuries. Renowned as the “God of the Off Side” for his elegant stroke play, he also played a pivotal role in rebuilding Indian cricket after the match-fixing scandal of 2000. (Agencies)
