New Delhi, July 14: Speculation over the relationship between Virat Kohli and India head coach Gautam Gambhir has resurfaced after a report by Times Now claimed the two were not seen interacting during a recent India training session.
According to the report, Gambhir was observed speaking with several members of the squad during practice, while Kohli spent much of his time training separately.
The report also stated that the two did not exchange words during the session, reigniting discussion over their equation.
The development has once again drawn attention to a relationship that has been under the spotlight since their playing days. Kohli and Gambhir were involved in high-profile on-field confrontations during the Indian Premier League in 2013 and again in 2023, when Gambhir was mentor of Lucknow Super Giants.
Although the pair appeared to bury the hatchet with a widely publicised handshake during IPL 2024, their relationship has continued to attract public interest following Gambhir’s appointment as India’s head coach.
Neither Kohli nor Gambhir has commented on the latest report, while the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also made no statement regarding the matter. The Times Now report has surfaced at a time when Gambhir is under scrutiny following India’s recent performances, while Kohli remains one of the senior leaders in the dressing room. As a result, any perceived distance between the two has generated considerable interest among fans and observers.
However, there is no official evidence to suggest that the reported lack of interaction points to any disagreement, and the claims remain based solely on observations reported by Times Now. Until either the players or the team management addresses the issue, speculation over their relationship is likely to continue. (Agencies)
