SHILLONG, July 14: While Meghalaya has distributed nearly 85% of electoral enumeration forms, the state faces a race against time to digitise the voter list, with over 17 lakh forms still waiting to be uploaded into the system.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) BDR Tiwari informed on Tuesday that while 19.91 lakh Enumeration Forms (EFs) have been distributed out of 23.49 lakh electors, only 5.64 lakh forms—roughly 24%—have been digitised. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is currently under close monitoring to ensure the state meets Election Commission of India (ECI) deadlines.
The CEO’s office is conducting weekly video conferences with District Election Officers (DEOs) and registration officials to address bottlenecks faced by Booth Level Officers (BLOs). The focus has shifted to closing the gap between physical distribution and system entry to ensure no eligible voter is left off the rolls.
In an effort to bolster the exercise, an interaction programme was held with members of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on July 13 in hybrid mode. Legislators were briefed on the SIR timelines and urged to encourage participation within their constituencies to ensure the accuracy of the 60-seat state’s electoral roll.
The CEO has appealed to all eligible electors across the state to actively participate in the SIR exercise and ensure that every eligible citizen is included in the electoral roll.
