Shillong, July 14: Preparations for the fifth edition of the Sohra International Half Marathon, scheduled to be held on September 4, gathered momentum following a coordination meeting with representatives of villages along the race route.
The meeting, held on July 10 at CP School, Nongsawlia, was attended by leaders and Seng Samla representatives from all 15 villages. Organisers reviewed the preparations and logistical arrangements for the international event, while participants offered several suggestions aimed at further improving the conduct of the marathon.
According to Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) secretary Finely Pariat, the response from runners has been overwhelming, with 6,447 participants having registered for the event as of July 14.The organisers have urged interested runners to complete their registrations at the earliest, noting that entries will be closed once the number of participants reaches 11,000, even if that is before the official registration deadline.
The Sohra International Half Marathon has grown into one of Meghalaya’s flagship sporting events, attracting participants from across India and abroad while showcasing the scenic beauty of Sohra and promoting sports tourism in the state.
