SHILLONG, July 16: The Meghalaya government has decided to intensify Aadhaar enrolment and e-KYC drives across the state to ensure that eligible beneficiaries do not lose access to benefits under various central and state-sponsored welfare schemes.
The decision was taken during a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday with officials of the Community and Rural Development, Health, Social Welfare, and Food and Civil Supplies departments to assess the progress of Aadhaar enrolment and beneficiary seeding across key welfare programmes.
To accelerate the process, the state government is considering engaging Common Service Centres (CSCs) to complete the remaining e-KYC formalities and bridge Aadhaar linkage gaps.
It has also resolved to organise additional enrolment and awareness camps in coordination with district administrations and line departments to improve beneficiary coverage.
According to the review, 77.02 per cent of households covered under the Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS)-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) have been linked with Aadhaar, while Aadhaar linkage among individual beneficiaries stands at 57.13 per cent.
The review further found that 61.01 per cent of beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) have completed the mandatory electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) process, with efforts now being stepped up to cover the remaining beneficiaries.
Conrad said the state government would provide every possible support to help citizens complete Aadhaar enrolment and e-KYC requirements.
However, he stressed that beneficiaries of central government schemes must complete these mandatory formalities as they are essential for the continued receipt of benefits under the respective schemes.
