Lok Adalat settles cases worth over Rs 11 lakh

SHILLONG, July 19: The Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) on Saturday organised a Special Lok Adalat for the disposal of cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, settling matters amounting to Rs 11,31,050.
The Lok Adalat was held under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the patronage of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere, Patron-in-Chief of the MSLSA.
The exercise was supervised by Justice HS Thangkhiew, Executive Chairman of the MSLSA, and Justice W. Diengdoh, Chairperson of the High Court Legal Services Committee.
The special session focused on the resolution of disputes under the Negotiable Instruments Act, which primarily involves cheque bounce cases, aimed at reducing the backlog of pending litigation in the state’s courts.
