FCI rice truck catches fire on Umsning Bypass

NONGPOH, July 22: A truck carrying Food Corporation of India (FCI) rice caught fire on the Umsning Bypass in Ri Bhoi district on Wednesday evening. The driver, Farijul Hoque, escaped the blaze unharmed.
The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. while the vehicle (AS01FC8674) was en route to Jowai. The fire, suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit, quickly engulfed the front section of the truck.
Personnel from the Umiam Fire and Emergency Services responded to the alert and brought the fire under control before it could destroy the entire vehicle. While the extent of the damage is still being assessed, no injuries were reported.
