SHILLONG, July 23: The KSU South East Central Circle and the FKJGP Riwar Mihngi Circle on Thursday suspended their plan to repair a damaged stretch of the Shillong-Pynursla road after the state government and the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) initiated restoration work.
Earlier, members of the two organisations had arrived at the site below Laitlyngkot village with tools and equipment, intending to fix the road themselves. They alleged that repeated appeals to the authorities for repairs had failed to yield timely action.
Upon arrival, however, they found officials from the Pynursla Civil Sub-Division and the NHIDCL already working on the stretch.
The organisations were informed that the NHIDCL has been directed to construct a temporary subway for light vehicles while permanent restoration is carried out.
In view of the ongoing work, the KSU and FKJGP decided not to proceed with their voluntary repair. Instead, they held a brief meeting at the site to review the situation and urged the authorities to ensure the project is completed without further delay.
Police personnel were also present at the location to monitor the situation.
The groups, meanwhile, stated they would continue to watch the progress of the restoration and warned of further action if the work is not finished within a reasonable timeframe.
