SHILLONG, July 25: The construction of the much-touted five-star Taj Umiam Resort & Spa at Umiam Lake is likely to begin in September-October this year.
The Tata Group, through the Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), is constructing the five-star luxury Taj Umiam Resort & Spa on a 66-acre site along the shores of Umiam Lake.
Sources from the Tata Group said that various engineering drawings and plans are currently being finalised.
“If everything goes as per plan, the work will begin by September-October, once the monsoon subsides,” sources said.
Initially, Lumpongdeng Island, located in the middle of the lake, was also supposed to be part of the project.
However, the government later officially excluded the island from the proposed luxury resort project following strong public opposition.
The five-star luxury hotel project will proceed as planned at the existing 30-acre Orchid Lake Resort property.
