TURA, July 25: Habibuz Zaman, the sitting MDC from the Shyamnagar constituency in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), passed away in New Delhi on Friday after a prolonged illness. He was 46.
Zaman had been battling a blood clot in the brain for the past two years and was undergoing treatment in the national capital at the time of his death. His mortal remains were brought back to his parental home in Chibinang on Saturday afternoon.
A member of the NPP, Zaman was a close associate of Phulbari MLA AT Mondal.
The GHADC observed a one-day holiday on Friday to mourn his passing.
While there were initially conflicting reports regarding his condition as he remained in critical care, his death was formally confirmed by family members on Saturday.
