Kohima:At least three people, including two women, were killed and 13 others were injured near Sub-Urban Police Station Tinali and Lhomithi Junction of Dimapur, when a car ploughed a carol procession on the eve of Christmas on Wednesday.
According to a press release from the Additional Superintendent of Police of Dimapur, the car, after slamming into the pedestrians, tried to escape towards West Yard colony, before it was intercepted by the public. The driver was reportedly driving the car in an inebriated state. One of his minor children was also in the car at the time.
The deceased were identified as Purtula (62), Zungalemla (75) and T Noklen Longkumer (73) and all were residents of Kevija-u Colony of Dimapur. The driver of the car was reportedly in an inebriated state and had first rammed into an auto-carrier and two goods-carts after which the vehicle ploughed over the carol singing party.
The victims and the injured were part of a Christ-mas Carol party and were on their way to take part in a sectorwise Carol competi-tion organised by Signal Ao Baptist Fellowship. On December 25, a joint funeral service was held at Dimapur Ao Baptist Arogo (DABA) Church attended by hund-reds of mourners. (UNI)
