Stray violence as ANSU shutdown hits Itanagar

Itanagar: Sporadic violence marked the 48-hour bandh called by the All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) which began in Arunachal Pradesh capital at 5 am on Monday.

The agitators burnt pension-related files and ransacked the chamber of assistant general manager after barging into the office of state transport general manager at Naharlagun and shattered window panes of few other offices in the capital complex by stone pelting, Superintendent of Police, capital complex, Tamut Apang told PTI.

The twin capital cities wore a deserted look, the offices recorded thin attendance, traders downed their shutters, banks and post offices remained closed and all modes of transport baring few state transport buses were off the road.

The state government had declared the bandh illegal and directed its employees to attend offices or face disciplinary action.

However, students celebrated Teacher’s Day with Industries Minister Tako Dabi as chief guest. (PTI)
