TURA: Relentless pursuit of militants by Garo Hills police in a bid to break the hold of GNLA has led to the surrender of four cadres at Williamnagar on Monday afternoon.

The four militants who surrendered before Superintendent of Police, J F K Marak, are Wilnen C Marak alias Dosi of Takkima near Phulbari, Salvision R Sangma alias Kodolak of Songsak who happens to be the cousin of GNLA chairman Champion R Sangma, Malson A Sangma alias Jipjang of Jangkigre, Williamnagar and Salnang N Marak alias Kusi of Songsak.

All four militants surrendered without any weapons.

Interestingly, the GNLA had issued a press statement a week ago mentioning that Salvision R Sangma alias Kodolok had been discharged from the outfit after being given due punishment for his alleged acts of ‘indiscipline’.

The outfit had mentioned that Kodolok was caught harassing women from the villages on two occasions. He was reportedly made to do hard labour at the outfit’s camp and also given 150 lashes to his body before being let off.

Police sources reveal that the militant group probably confiscated Kodolok and his group’s weapons before discharging them. With the outfit refusing to shelter them anymore and police on their trail, the desperate militants may have been compelled to give themselves up.
