Abducted ex-teacher freed

TURA: A sixty-five year old retired teacher who was kidnapped from his home in Sibbari in the month of December has returned safe after being released by his captives in neighbouring Bangladesh.
The former school teacher, Rovingson B Marak, was kidnapped by a gang of dacoits comprising of Bangladeshis and locals from his home in Sibbari over a month ago.
He was taken across the international border and held captive in foreign soil by the criminal gang consisting of both Garos and Bangladeshi muslims, informed South Garo Hills police.
The aged victim was escorted out of captivity by three non-Garo Bangladeshi nationals who dropped him off near Fakirkona border outpost.
Police sources reveal that the victim’s family and relatives had to pay a sum of Rs. 2,60,000/- in two installments to secure his safe release. The menace of kidnappings and cross border captivity continues to haunt the border population in the Sibbari-Baghmara-Rongara belt.
