JOWAI: In a bid to ease the frequent traffic jams in and around the busy Iawmusiang area of Jowai, the Jowai Traffic Police has made new traffic arrangement which will come into force with immediate effect.
As per the new arrangement, no heavy vehicles will be allowed to enter Jowai from 11:30 am till 2 pm. Trucks coming from Shillong will be allowed to enter Iawmusiang only after the no entry timing is over and should be parked on the Myntdu Bridge.
The directive states that no light vehicles will be allowed to park in No Parking Zones; U-Turn orders will be strictly observed; local taxis should board their passengers only in designated embarking and disembarking points.
Overload will be strictly observed and if any violation is found penalty will be levied as per traffic rules.
All Sumos coming from Mihmyntdu side will be parked at the Parking Lot at Iewthymme. Sumos coming from Shillong will be parked at the Parking Lot at Iewshyiap near HK Singh School. No Parking Zone has been declared from Exotica till Little Angel School; Mission Compound till Meghalaya Studio; DC Junction till Chutwakhu Tri-junction and Mission Compound Youth Centre till Chutwakhu Tri-junction. One side parking will be allowed on Dawki Stand and Mynthon but no parking will be allowed on the side of PWD Compound. Between Thomas Jones Junction and KJP Hospital junction parking will be allowed on only one side of the road.
One way traffic rule has been imposed on the Tpep-Pale via Kiang Nangbah Road (KNB) to Iawmusiang and from Iawmusiang via Thomos Jones – KJP Moosalyngkat road. Vehicles coming from Iongpiah area will reached Iawmusiang through Chutwakhu and JHADC road.
No parking and no U- turn for Shaktiman trucks will be allowed at Dawki Junction.
For Shillong tourist cabs, two vehicles will be allowed to be parked at one time near Thomas Jones College. No vehicle will be allowed to park at Iawthymme Road and along the highway. Light vehicles and buses should only be parked at the Parking Lot at Iawthyme.
Police have also informed that action will be taken against local taxis driver if they are found smoking, using mobiles and are found drunk when driving.
No air horns, tinted glasses and LED lights will be allowed on the vehicles. The Jowai Traffic Police has also urged local taxis drivers and vehicle owners to update their driving license and other documents including registration cards and permits.
